Labour is collaborating with scientists and trade unions to work towards net zero carbon emissions by 2030, one of the most radical net zero emissions targets in Europe. This is likely to involve a just transition for workers involved in carbon-intensive industries, taking public transport into public ownership, retro-fitting zero-carbon measures on public buildings and social housing, and working with farmers to reduce emissions from the agricultural sector.

Lauren Townsend, a trade unionist and spokesperson for Labour for a Green New Deal, said: “The Labour movement has voted to take leadership on the climate emergency with a response which puts people and planet before profit.
