Labour Says North Yorkshire Needs A Fresh Start and a Vote For Integrity.

It is clear that many voters in North Yorkshire are dissatisfied with the Conservative government’s lack of integrity. The same Party has been running North Yorkshire Council since 1974 presiding over a catalogue of cuts in services. We say it is time for a change. We urge you to vote Labour to express your opposition to the conduct of the government, to demand a return to integrity and turn the tide on service cuts in North Yorkshire.

This is a beautiful area to live in but we face real challenges. A decade of Conservative austerity cuts and increases in the cost of housing, energy and food are hitting residents hard.

There is a serious shortage of affordable housing for local people. Public transport services are poor, expensive or non-existent but vital for access to work, health services and recreation. Food is a basic human right but food poverty is increasing. North Yorkshire has almost 10,000 children living in poverty. In Thirsk and Malton 27% of children’s lives are blighted by it. Rural primary schools continue to be closed and by next year 79 North Yorkshire schools could be in deficit. The care system is on its knees due to government underfunding.

In addition there are multiple threats to our environment, locally and globally, which the County Council has largely ignored.

Our manifesto offers a comprehensive set of policies to tackle these problems. It is published on https://northyorkshire.laboursites.org, Manifesto

We have a diverse and experienced team of candidates who ask only for the opportunity to put them into practice.

Many of the problems we face are directly due to Conservative government policies. A Labour council would challenge the Conservative government in the way that a Conservative council never will.
