We would be very grateful if you members help us select a Labour candidate for the election of Police and Crime Commissioner for North Yorkshire. The two applicants, Alison Hume and James Alexander will be taking part in an online hustings specially arranged for Thirsk and Malton Labour Party members on 8th January 2021. Each will speak for five to ten minutes, there will then be questions and answers and the vote will take place at the end of the meeting. The meeting will start at 6.45 prompt and last no more than one hour. Signing in starts at 6.15.

This is an important election for a high profile position. The Tory incumbent, Julia Mulligan, has not been popular and is not standing for re-election. Although she won by 65,000 to 45,000 votes in 2016, given the current state of national politics, Labour can win this. It is a case where the campaign could make a difference and the candidate is crucial. You can ask the candidates any relevant question and use your own criteria in deciding who you will vote for..

Taking part in this hustings would be a valuable way of contributing to the Thirsk and Malton Party. Listening to the applicants will help you understand the role of Police and Crime Commissioner and why it is important that a Labour candidate wins this election. See The Role of Police and Crime Commissioners. In North Yorkshire the role includes responsibility for Fire and Rescue services and is therefore sometimes referred to as the PFCC. The candidates statements are attached.

We do hope you will be able to attend. The meeting must be quorate to go ahead. If you are aiming to attend it would be very helpful if you could RSVP
