Jeremy 1 – 0 Johnson

I  know I’m biased but I really thought Jeremy Corbyn did very well in the ITV debate with Prime Minister Johnson last night. He made his points well, didn’t ramble and rant like Johnson and answered the questions. Overall he seemed well received by the majority of the studio audience. The Johnson strategy of bringing every question back to Brexit seemed to be increasingly irritating the audience. The HuffPost analysis supports my view as does the YouGov post debate poll.

Fundraiser 30th Nov

We really need the cash to finish the campaign we have planned with a splash – targetted social media videos and large roadside posters. We have been very lucky to get an excellent, and politically committed, band for the night. Coil are an Indy band from Doncaster who perform a mixture of their own compositions and classic rock. They are very good and will raise spirits at our  fundraising social on 30th November. This is going to be a brilliant night amongst friends so don’t  miss out. Tickets are on sale through your branch agent or me. You may be able to get in by paying at the door on the night but it’s a smallish venue so to be sure get a ticket in advance.   Support the cause and have some fun. Poster on Facebook.

The Campaign So Far

We’ve been busy. Produced two leaflets. Designed and printed 30,000 copies of our own leaflet within eight days of selection of our candidate. Many thanks to our member Nick Howarth-Pulleyn for doing the design and to IncDot printers for incredibly fast turnaround. That’s what people do when they are fired with enthusiasm for a just cause. The second leaflet will be delivered by free post to 42,000 households towards the end of the campaign. Our branches have run four Street Stalls and we have held four meet the candidate events for members. The highlight was the very well attended meeting hosted by North Ryedale Branch and featuring a talk on the NHS by Dr. Michael Snee.

What’s Next

Leafletting. Our 30,00 leaflets are batched up, delivery has started but we need a lot of deliverers to get them through letterboxes in the next two weeks. You can take a bundle of around 200 and deliver at a time that suits you or you can team up with other volunteers to go round together. If you can help please urgently contact your Branch Agent, or me.

Door Knocking In Scarborough. Vital that we take this seat from the Tories. See message below from our Candidate Hugo Fearnley. You are urged to go and help whenever you can

We are fighting hard every day to win this seat from the Tories and we are catching up in the polls. Every day from now until polling day really counts, and together we can ensure we turn Scarborough & Whitby red and help deliver a transformative Labour government. We are out on the doorstep talking to voters every day with sessions running in Scarborough & Whitby. For the most up to date information on where we are campaigning and how you can get involved, just call our campaign hotline or pop into the office between 10am and 6pm:

Tel: 07826 179229.  The Campaign Office is at: 6 Pavilion Square, Scarborough, YO11 2JN

Door Knocking In York. Equally vital that we hold York Central, Rachael Maskell, and that Anna Perrett takes York Outer from the Tories. There are three or more sessions a day from now until the election, too many to list here but you can find them on the Events Page of our website by extending the Filter. The list for the rest of this week is attached. Members near to York are urged to go and help as much as you can.

The result of this election will determine the way the country is heading for some time. Labour must win to save us from a right wing government subservient to the USA. We urgently need £1,000 to enable us to complete the campaign we have planned. Many thanks to those who have already donated generously. If you haven’t yet you could do it now using this donate button.

Best wishes, Mick Johnston General Election Agent for Thirsk and Malton Constituency Labour Party
