I am standing to represent Thirsk because I would like to see our region regain the enthusiasm, the positive outlook and creativity associated with the period before the Conservative years of austerity and I believe that that will only happen with Labour voices in local government.

For several years prior to retirement, I was the leader of the MA Urban Design programme at the University of Westminster, and currently work part time teaching specialist post graduate courses to architects, planners and landscape architects. Prior to joining the University, I worked in the fields of town planning, urban design and conservation, primarily but not only for Local Authorities across the midlands and north of England.

I believe passionately in the role of democratic Local Authorities in the provision of all local public services and have a particular interests not only in my own professional fields but also in public transport and the proper coordinated provision of school level education
