Leadership Nominations Special Meeting 8th Feb.2020
All eligible Thirsk and Malton Constituency Labour Party members are invited to a Special General Meeting to decide which of the candidates we, as a Constituency, will nominate for Leader and Deputy Leader. The meeting is on Saturday 8th February at the Ryedale Community and Leisure Centre, Bowling Lane, Scarborough Road, Norton, YO17 8EG. The doors will be open from 11.00. allowing time for membership checks, a cup of tea and time to read candidates’ statements. The meeting will open formally at 12.00. Anyone arriving after that will not be admitted. Please note that only Members who are eligible to vote in the Leadership Elections themselves are allowed to participate in the nominations meeting. To be eligible you must have joined by 20th January 2020 and must have paid any membership arrears by 14th Feb 2020. Registered and Affiliated Supporters cannot attend the Nomination Meeting although they can vote in the Leadership Ballot itself. (See below.)
The Party has issued quite strict guidelines for the conduct of the Nomination Meeting and we will be following these to the best of our ability. See Link. Also attached.
We may also, at the same meeting, nominate two people to fill the NEC places vacated as a result of the election of Claudia Webbe and Navendu Mishra to Parliament, and one person to fill the newly created Black & Minority Ethnic place. We have no information yet on who will be seeking nomination for these.. All we know is that nominations can be proposed from the floor at our meeting.

As you know, you are invited to lunch on Saturday 18th January 2020, 12.30 at the Mount Hotel, Yorkersgate, Malton, YO17 7AB. We hope that all who helped with the General Election campaign can come so David can thank you in person for your hardwork. Also hoping that new members will come to find out a bit more about us. It’s a chance to share views and ask questions on the General Election, the Leadership Elections, the coming County Council elections and anything else. We’d love to see as many as possible of you there. If you haven’t already please use the RSVP Link to let us know you are coming, or email firstname.lastname@example.org We need to know numbers for catering and to avoid waste.
The Leadership Ballot.
The Leadership Ballot itself is one person one vote. As well as ordinary Members, Registered and Affiliated Members get a vote. Affiliated Members will have their eligibility confirmed by their Affiliate body, a Trade Union or Society. If as an Affiliate Member you have any questions about your eligibility you must take it up with your affillate body. The Constituency has no role in managing the ballot (fortunately). You will get your ballot papers and statements, digital or paper, direct from Civica. The ballot will run from 21st February to 2nd April. The result vwill be announced at a Special Conference on 4th April in London. There is now a lot of information on the Party Website , including the eligibility criteria. There is also a stream of information coming from Labourlist . I strongly recommend that you Subscribe for the Labourlist daily digest to keep up.
All ten candidates for Leader and Deputy Leader will be appearing at Hustings around the country. Members will be invited, not sure how yet, and they will be available to view live on line. Times & venues to follow and will be updated on the Website.
