General Election 12th December

Jeremy’s Message of Hope

We are now in election mode. In announcing the Shadow Cabinet’s decision yesterday to vote for a General Election our Leader stated on facebook ‘No deal is now off the table so tonight Labour will back a General Election. We’re launching the most ambitious and radical campaign for real change our country has ever seen. This is a once in a generation chance to build a country for the many not the few. It’s time.’

Our 2017 Manifesto was inspiring in its scope and the brilliant campaign lead by Jeremy Corbyn turned a 24% opinion poll deficit into a 2% gap in four weeks. Our 2019 Manifesto will be published shortly and will be even better. Its ambition is already clear from Press Releases, Campaigns and Conference Decisions. It addresses the whole range of social injustices which pervade our society and tackles climate change with the Green New Deal that is more comprehensive and convincing than anything the Green Party has offered. And a Labour Government could and would deliver it. There will never be a Green Party Government. See Jeremy’s Early Election Address made in Parliament today. It is now up to us to put our all into the campaign for these policies.

Brexit remains unresolved. The threat of No Deal has been removed for now but whatever the outcome of the General Election Brexit and its corrosive and divisive fallout will be around for years to come. Labour seeks to bring the country back together, in or out of the EU. It is a difficult course but the only one with integrity, the only one which respects all people and gives real hope to the next generation. If you want a final say on Brexit only Labour is offering that, with the LibDems having dumped the Peoples Vote for the possibility of a few more seats in Westminster.

Stop Fracking Now: LP Petition

Amongst our many national campaigns the Party is campaigning to stop fracking now. While a Labour Government will ban fracking within 100 days of election according to Jon Trickett MP, Shadow Cabinet Office Minister, the Party is now campaigning for an immediate ban. This comes, in response to pressure from us and other Fracking Front Line CLPs. So Sign The Petition right now and share through your social media.

Best wishes, Mick Johnston Secretary Thirsk and Malton Constituency Labour Party
